happens to me all the time.. switzerland / sweden / swaziland.. people don’t get it :3 one time I got asked if switzerland is about the same size as america..it is scary how many people don’t know what the UK is or the countries it consists of… the amount of confusion is crazy.
Best worst answers so far:

- Paris
- Africa.
Those people weren’t even joking. It was shocking.

Americans, as a whole, are shockingly ignorant. It’s better among residents of big cities where they’re more likely to encounter people from other countries, but otherwise, the rest of the world just kind of gets lumped into “out there.” It is scary.

I had to explain to my friends once why a Scottish woman was on Britain’s Got Talent. We generally don’t learn much geography in high school, it’s sad. My geography class was literally reading American football stats for a semester.

I can understand the Ireland confusion, but jeez, not knowing that the UK is NOT Sweden or Australia, or THE CITY OF PARIS is kind of important. But then again, I think I heard that 40% of American adults can’t find the US on a world map…
